For your consideration one unlisted, very crude, Confederate Enfield bullet. You will find this crude bullet to be in very good to excellent dug condition. The patina is a real nice white color. Mold seams can be plainly seen on both sides & they are both slightly sunken. The cavity is a shallow plug with a step (depressed dot) directly in the center of the plug...see cavity photo. By looking at this bullet my guess is the molted lead was way to hot to be poured into the bullet mold. There are 3 pin hole voids as if the lead was near boiling hot when cast. Measures about 0.57 x 1.01 inches. What could make this bullet any better??...dug from the Corinth/Shiloh area.

Here's something you don't see for sale very often. Three Burnside hulls placed inside each other. All covered with a deep woods dirt. The condition of the hulls is great. I see no breaks or cracks. I have dug Burnside hulls stuck together a couple times here in NE Tenn. I have heard that sticking these hulls together created a tool used to remove hot hulls from the Burnside chamber. Another possibly is that when firing ceased troops would pick these hulls up to help burn off nervous energy...you be the judge. To find 3 dug hulls in the great condition is almost unheard of. The Burnside hulls is probably the most fragile of all civil war brass hulls. Dig location is North Georgia.

For your consideration one iron spur found in a barn from the Rogersville, Tenn area. Three additional photos of this spur can be found near the top of page 1 (just below Davy Crockett's cabin) here at TennesseeLead.com. One of the oddest spurs I have seen. Made from heavy iron. The rowel moves freely. The base of the neck is scalloped. See photos page 1...one arm of the spur is striped like a lollipop. The other is plain. Both arms have heavy slots for the leather straps & both slots have iron studs in them. The studs both move freely. The rust is surface rust only. Gentleman from the Canes

Welcome back to the banks of the Nolichucky river Greene & Washington Counties, Tennessee-David (Davy) Crockett's birthplace. At this location these 2 counties are only seperated by a gorgeous farmland creek know as the Limestone just before it empties into the Nolichucky. Bass & catfish aplenty...instant protein. This photo is what state archaeologists consider to be a historically correct lodge Crockett would have been born to in 1786. If this were your home you are not use to many comforts. Dirt floor, sleep in one corner & eat in the other. A photo of the historically incorrect cabin, which stood for years at this state park, can be seen at the top of page 1 here at TennesseeLead. A good home site for an early pioneer family would have been a good site for native Indians 100-200 years prior to Crockett. This seems to be the case because local college students are doing an archaeological dig on a hut site very close to this site. They have found arrow points, broken pottery & very small clear glass beads which we were told were from Europe. All of their findings will eventually be on display at the park.

Here is a photo of the Indian hut dig site. Good ole NE Tennessee river bottom soil. I was struck at how exact & precise the student diggers were. The top 12 inches of dirt has been removed & the artifacts are now being found...I'm not sure I completely understand this. Theory is this hut burned...to the right you can see charcoal/burned wood. In a trash pit a possums jaw bone has been found. As a kid I remember the ole timers said that possum & sweet potatoes make a good meal. Hunger is the best spice.

For your consideration one unlisted Confederate carbine bullet. Similar bullets are listed but not one just like this one. Has a medium depth cone cavity. A crude bullet variety that's in very good dug condition. The patina is a choice, slick white. Mold seams can be seen on both sides & an interrupted pour mark can be seen in the top groove...see L photo. Measures about 0.52 x 0.87 inches. I dug a few bullets just like this one & have seen a couple others dug in my home county NE Tenn. Dig location on this bullet is unknown.

Historical accounts of a NE Tenn battle site describes a small group of wild ass CS Kentucky calvary who rode into battle on bare back horses & were bare footed. They seemed to answer to no one & their own men were afraid of them. I'm betting these were the bullets they were shooting.
