Confederate General Longstreet’s billet at Russellville, NE Tenn
Here’s a house that if you do not see it here….you may never see it. Confederate General Longstreet’s billet at Russellville, NE Tenn where he wintered 1863-64. Bulls Gap, Morristown, Dandridge, New Market, Mossy Creek, Greeneville, Rogersville, Newport are all just a short drive away & all saw action all thru the war but especially this winter. At this stage of the war this country was so “poor” that Longstreet had to spread his men out over 6 or so many counties just to feed them. This home stood vacant for years although it has been recognized by the state. My understanding now it is in the hands of private investors who are content to maintain as original as possible for its historical significance.
