This bullet is SOLD. For your consideration one McKee & Mason 409 - Thomas handbook 173A Southern manufacture bullet. You will find this bullet to be in very good to excellent dug condition. The patina is a smooth, slick, light brown color with stains from red clay dirt. The nose cast sprue was nipped off at an angle & a real nice pinch mark was left in the center of the area where the nose cast sprue was removed...see photo 4. The cavity is a plug. Dug from Bulls Gap, Tenn. This item is SOLD.
This bullet type is know to many collectors as a Fayetteville, NC arsenal bullet but I know of no hard evidence to prove this. I do know of a few NC troops were involved at the Stampede at Bulls Gap.
