A civil war oddity. For your consideration one spencer hull with the bullet removed & then the bullet has been fully inserted, nose first, back into the hull. The bullet is firmly down inside the hull. I have dug 2 spencer hulls just like this one & seen a couple others. So by no means a one of a kind relic. My theory is someone needed to start a camp fire, remove bullet & pour the gun powder into the kindling, light match & you have a campfire. So now what do I do with a useless bullet & hull? Fully insert bullet into hull nose first, throw to ground. Dug from the Rutledge, Tenn area…one of the first burgs Longstreet passed thru as he left from the Seige at Knoxville.
