For your consideration one Thomas handbook 89 Burnside cartridge in excellent whole dug-not a put together condition. made of drawn brass and features the "swell" around the bullet. The swell is were the bullet grease was. All is strong & tight. In photo 4 you see where the ignition hole is filled with a whitish substance ~ some of which has edged its way down onto the base of the hull. While this cartridge laid in the ground for 150 years looks like there was a reaction between the black powder inside the hull & something outside the hull...you be the judge!
